How Does A Dehumidifier Work?
Maybe you are interested in how things like dehumidifiers work, or you are just overly interested in getting that sticky moisture out of your house. Whatever the reason may be, we have got you covered.
This blog will discuss how a dehumidifier works, what it is and more.
What Does A Dehumidifier Do?
A dehumidifier is an electric appliance used in modern homes that helps eliminate moisture. Besides eliminating moisture from the air, dehumidifiers can also do the following:
- Prevent the growth of mould
- Remove dust
- Improve the quality of the air
- Provide you much comfort
If you or your family member has breathing problems like asthma or dust allergies, a dehumidifier can help with those too.
How Does A Dehumidifier Work?
A dehumidifier works in one of two basic ways, and they are:
- Refrigeration
- Absorption
Refrigeration
The following are the steps involved in refrigeration:
- The warm and humid air present in your home is sucked into one side of the dehumidifier’s system through a grille.
- An electric fan near the entrance helps in sucking the air further into the system.
- The humid air then goes over the chilly pipes holding the coolant.
- The air begins to cool, and with that, the moisture present in it turns into liquid and drops down into a gathering tray at the base of the machine.
- The cool and moisture-free air flows to the hot condenser unit.
- This unit brings the cold air back to its original temperature.
- Then, the air flows back into the room through the fan and grille on the other side of the machine.
- The gathering tray has a little plastic ball connected to the system. When the tray is full, the machine shuts off and indicates to the user that the tray needs to be emptied.
Absorption
The answer to how does a dehumidifier works can also be found in the following steps for the absorption method:
- The warm and humid air is drawn into the system through a duct.
- The air passes through a big spinning wheel that is made from water-absorbing material.
- This material helps remove moisture from the air.
- Then, the air is drawn by a fan spinning with the help of an electric motor.
- From there, the moisture-free air is passed back into the room.
The air duct is kept warm though with the help of a heating element. This heat helps the moisture-absorbing material to dry out.
